During his farming years, John Kulm produced apples, hay and grain on a family farm in Washington State. John claims his best training in writing came from 12 years touring stand-up comedy clubs, which he calls "an intense study course on how people respond to words." From there he transitioned to working on concert stages as a performance poet. He's recited his poetry on National Public Radio, and at the Peoples' Poetry Gathering in Lower Manhattan, New York, the Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, Nevada, the National Poetry Slam, and at numerous venues across North America and Australia. He writes a monthly column on visual art called "Explain Yourself" for Hipfish, an arts and culture publication. John's background in farming still colors his writing. |
